Konopiste Castle
About
Konopiste is a lovely hunting chateau located about 45 km south-east of Prague. It was founded in the 13th century and it has become famous as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand d'Este, the successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne, whose assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 triggered World War I. Visitors can observe the residential rooms of Franz Ferdinand, a large collection of antlers, or an armoury with medieval weapons. Guided, entrance fee included. The chateau is located by a big forest and lake in a typical countryside setting and we can recommend the tour as a nice break from Prague city life.
