Cesky Sternberk Castle perches on cliffs in the romantic and wooded valley above the Sázava river and compares with early
gothic castles originating in the middle ages. The characteristic of such castles are fortifications, bastions and towers. Later
on its interiors were altered into the late gothic and early baroque styles and are richly decorated with stucco works. Nowadays
the castle is in the possession of Sternberks again and houses interesting expositions on castle-living style.

This beautiful hunting castle is situated approximately 45 km outside Prague. It was founded in 14th century and renovated in 1887 by Frantisek Ferdinand D'Este, whose assassination in Sarajevo 1914 served as pretext to the start of World War 1. The courtyard and
interior rooms are interesting enough but you would probably enjoy bears which are in a moat surrounding the castle. Konopiste is valuable mainly for its collection of historical weapons, furniture, tapestries and paintings. Admission included

Telc - a renaissance architectural jewel - is amid a beautiful hilly countryside and lakes. This was once a royal water fort
founded at the crossroads of major trade routes. Its renaissance appearance has remained intact up to the present after a
devastating fire. There is a guided tour around lavishly decorated interiors of the chateau with its covered ceilings. You can
admire the large central square, which is lined with gabled houses. They have different facades adorned with frescoes, later
baroque and rococo sculptures.

Originally Melnik was a stronghold of an old Slavonic tribe from the 9th century. Later, in the beginning of the 15th century the fortress was turned into a Gothic castle and again, while owned by the Berka family, it was transformed into a Renaissance
château. At the end of the 18th century the castle brewery was completed. Today the château houses a local museum and a gallery with the collection of the greatest Czech Baroque painters. Melnik is a famous wine- producing centre and hence after our
tour of the complex we will have a wine tasting and lunch in castle restaurant.
Comments: Lunch, wine tasting and entrance fee to the chateau, included.
